Magale Library Login Information

Access Magale Library’s online resources by selecting the current links located on its website: https://www.saumag.edu/library/
- - Your username is the same username as what you type into Blackboard as your username (e.g., ABStudent1234).
  - Your password is your SAU ID number as found on your SAU ID card or in mySAU (without dashes or spaces).
- If you have used Magale’s online resources previously, be aware that many of our links to resources have updated. You will need to use the current links provided on the library’s website.
- If you have bookmarked any of the library pages, please delete them and bookmark them using the updated library website links.

Linking to Magale Library’s Online Resources

Providing direct links for students to access specific Magale Library resources helps them quickly and accurately view required course materials. However, this can be tricky if you are not providing students in your courses with the correct link, since most database and ebook collections use session URLs that are not static. Additionally, the library’s online collections require users to log in, meaning that the links must be routed through the library’s proxy server. While Magale’s EBSCO databases and ebook collections provide URLs to resources that may be readily shared, most of the other resources require the use of permalinks/stable URLS/persistent links to link users directly to resources. Magale Library’s Linking to Magale Library’s Electronic Book and Database Resources guide describes how to obtain the links needed to share that connect directly to the library’s online resources.

Course Reserves

Physical Items – The library provides reserve collections for individual courses. See the library’s Reserves webpage to learn how to request these items for your courses.

Electronic Items – The library provides electronic reserves through its online databases and electronic book collections. Often, these items are located in the library’s collections and linked in Blackboard courses. The library’s online resources usually require the use of a proxy server prefix to be added in front of the direct link (permalink or persistent link) to the resource: https://saumag.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

Library Description

The Magale Library is a centrally located learning resource center containing about 134,000 book volumes and 290,000 titles in online databases and ebook collections. The library contains 607 student study seats, 213 student computers, 29 study rooms, 8 printers, and 3 instructional labs. The library receives approximately 54,000 visitors a year, 55,000 library webpage views, provides reference services to 900 faculty and students, teaches 2,200 students in instruction workshops, and provides research assistance through library guides and video tutorials to over 4,300 users each year. The resources at the Magale Library are used to prepare students in all academic areas for their intellectual growth, skill development, and meaningful career preparation.

Library Instruction

The library staff provides instruction in a variety of forms, including general how-to’s through advanced levels of specialized topics. Instruction is provided in-person and online using a variety of media.

Faculty often link to Magale’s library guides and video tutorials in their Blackboard courses when assigning student research projects. These are the most commonly assigned to help students begin their research assignments, found on Magale’s Video Tutorials webpage under Research Basics:

The World of Information: Information Literacy, Libraries, and Their Impact on Students

Learn about the World of Information! This tutorial introduces the basic concepts of information literacy and their impact on students. The tutorial also includes a discussion of the types of libraries, their resources, and how students’ knowledge and use of these resources affect their academic endeavors.

Determining A Resource’s Quality

Learn about the importance of evaluating information resources! This tutorial introduces the basic concepts of scholarly works, including how to locate and evaluate resources for quality.

Using Keywords and Boolean Searches

This short video tutorial describes the basics of determining keywords and using Boolean searches. Often, these search skills are more effective when searching library resources than typical Google search skill approaches.

Citing Resources (MLA 9th / APA 7th)

This is a video tutorial with details and explanations for citing and referencing commonly used library resources. Researchers sometimes find it confusing to understand how to document their resources in their work. This tutorial focuses on MLA 9th edition and APA 7th edition writing styles and attempts to demystify some of the terminology and rules of its core components and applications.
