Inside Out: Staying Attuned to Our Senses (1st – 2nd graders)
Children are born with a fresh outlook on the world, a genuine and joyful curiosity, and the ability to focus their attention to examine life around them. Unfortunately, by the age of six or seven, this peaceful and joyous way of being is usually lost to the distractions of the world and their desire to fit in. Even worse, the most important life skills are usually not taught in schools, such as how to develop and maintain emotional intelligence, how to focus attention and complete tasks, and how to stay curious and grateful of the world around them. The 2015 film “Inside Out” introduced children to the idea of emotional intelligence, and this class will continue provide hands-on exercises to help children stay attuned to their senses and stay grounded, and focused, in the present moment (rather than staying in a constant state of distraction).
