The Bell Tower, formerly known as The Water Tower, the 187-foot-tall Cor-ten steel structure, constructed in 1976, holds 50,000 gallons of water to supply the campus and the surrounding area. The Water Tower was awarded “Steel Tank of the Year” by the Steel Plater Fabricator’s Association in 1976 and was featured in Southern Living Magazine. In 1980, 14 cast bronze bells were installed and now chime every quarter hour, and in 1988, a tradition began to decorate the tower every holiday season into an 187-foot illuminated holiday candle.
