The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate is designed to enable teacher education candidates and practicing teachers to qualify to teach learners of English as an additional language. The program will prepare students to teach young, adolescent, and adult learners in a number of contexts, domestic and abroad, including community-based programs, private language institutes, intensive English programs, after-school programs, and online.
This minor provides training and background in issues needed to teach the English language to students from other cultures. The Minor in TESOL (the teaching of English as a second language) provides a marketable skill in an increasingly global and multi-cultural context, both inside and outside of the United States. This minor would be an especially good choice for students majoring in Education, English, Spanish, or Foreign Language.
