Agriculture Department

The Southern Arkansas University Agriculture Department provides exciting opportunities in agriculture. A small class size in conjunction with hands-on activities in lab and on the farm prepares students for a competitive job market. Students have plenty of opportunities for leadership through student organizations and enjoy a friendly atmosphere that makes them feel at home on the SAU campus.

Organizations:


Rodeo

SAU has an active rodeo team sanctioned by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, They compete in the Ozark Region: Arkansas, Northeast Louisiana, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, and Missouri. The team enjoys a winning tradition coupled with sound academic endeavors.

Agriculture Club/ Collegiate FFA

This organization is open to any agriculture student. The club is involved in many service and recreational activities throughout the year. A fall and spring social and a Christmas formal are among the highlighted events hosted by Agriculture Club/Collegiate FFA.

Alpha Tau Alpha

This organization is an honor society for agricultural education students. Alpha au Alpha strives to develop a true professional spirit in the teaching of agriculture, to help train teachers of agriculture who shall be rural leaders in their communities, and to foster a fraternal spirit among students in teacher-training for vocational agriculture. The organization participates in various community service activities including Habitat for Humanity.

The Collegiate Farm Bureau & Agribusiness Club

The Southern Arkansas University Collegiate Farm Bureau and Agribusiness Club is open to all students with interest in agribusiness careers. The main objective of this organization is to promote professional development of its members by enhancing their knowledge in the fields of agribusiness, agricultural economics, and related fields. Specifically, the organization strives to:

  • promote contact with agribusiness professionals through internship programs;
  • boost awareness of the opportunities and challenges in the agribusiness profession by providing educational activities such as field trips, conferences, guest speakers, inter-university competitions, etc…;
  • build a lasting relationship between agribusiness students, the agribusiness community, and the SAU Department of Agriculture.
