The method is quite simple and the \u201csecrets\u201d are set out below. At SAU, we contend that a well-prepared audition will reveal two major aspects of<br \/>a performer. These often conform to who you are and what you can do. First, we would like to see your personality, your strengths, your love of the arts, and the uniqueness that makes you \u201cyou.\u201d Second, we will be evaluating your skills: your voice, your physical presence, your intellect, and your emotional availability. This second area is evaluated as follows:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Vocal and Musical Ability.<\/strong>\u00a0Good pitch, a rhythmic sense, a pleasing vocal quality; articulation that is clear and appropriate to the context of the song or monologue.<\/li><li><strong>Physical Awareness.<\/strong>\u00a0General poise and stage deportment, freedom and ease of movement; general posture, use of hands in an unselfconscious manner, and the free and natural use of the body.<\/li><li><strong>Communication Skills.<\/strong>\u00a0Energy that is focused, communication with the audience (sharing), involvement; identification with the subject of the song or monologue, and the creation of a believable \u201creality\u201d on the stage. Understanding of the text and the \u201cgivens\u201d of the song or monologue. Capable of experiencing a range of emotions and demonstrating the ability to share these with the observers.<\/li><li><strong>Development of Style.<\/strong>\u00a0The integration of the techniques of acting, voice, and movement into the successful performance of selections from the musical theatre repertoire. You will need to supply the pianist with a legally purchased copy of your music. We recommend hole-punching your music and placing it in a 1-inch binder. Make sure you have clearly marked any cuts in your music, including where you are beginning and ending, and any internal cuts you have made.
