Dr. Helmut Langerbein<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Helmut Langerbein, professor of history at Southern Arkansas University, was selected to participate in a faculty seminar on World War II history at The National WWII Museum in New Orleans.<\/p>\n

The weeklong seminar brought together faculty members from the United States, Canada, Poland, and Italy.<\/p>\n

Langerbein began the application process in January, submitting an application and a letter of recommendation. He said the seminar provided new material and perspectives that he can incorporate into his courses at SAU.<\/p>\n

The seminar featured lectures and presentations covering a broad range of topics related to World War II, including military thinking and graphics, the global crisis from 1919-1941, the American interwar years, wartime mobilization and campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and the North Atlantic.<\/p>\n

Other sessions explored social change and wartime contributions, D-Day through Victory in Europe Day, the period following the attack on Pearl Harbor, evolving strategies in the Pacific, postwar recovery, and American leadership in the postwar world.<\/p>\n

Participants also attended a 4-D showing of \u201cBeyond All Boundaries\u201d and met with author John Parshall, who wrote \u201c1942: Crux of War.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Langerbein, the seminar offered more than an opportunity to study World War II. It provided a chance to engage with fellow historians, explore new approaches to the subject, and bring those experiences back to his students at SAU.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to be academically challenged,\u201d Langerbein said. \u201cI have a few things I\u2019ve already incorporated in my classes.\u201d<\/p>\n
