Minutes of the Faculty Senate<\/strong><\/p>\n Virtual Meeting<\/p>\n February 18, 2021<\/p>\n Present: Senators T. Schroeder, S. Schroeder, Tucker, Fanning, Wilson, Oden, Stanford, Wise, Overholser, Logan, Huang, Paulson, Schneiderwind, White, Almotairi, Warrick<\/p>\n Ex-Officio\/guests: \u00a0\u00a0Dr. Trey Berry, Dr. David Lanoue, Dr. Kim Bloss, Dr. Donna Allen, Mr. Roger Giles, Dr. Helmut Langerbein, Dr. Jennifer Rowsam, Dr. Gerald Plumlee, Dr. Robin Sronce, Dr. Scott White, Ms. Amanda Anderson, and Dr. Karen Landry<\/p>\n Proxies:<\/p>\n No proxies<\/p>\n Call to Order at 3:41 p.m.<\/p>\n Approval of Minutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n Special Orders of the Day<\/strong><\/p>\n Updates from Dr. Berry:<\/p>\n There was reported 12-13 inches of snow.\u00a0 The dining hall served 2 meals a day to students who remained on campus.\u00a0 The virtual class option worked out really well.\u00a0 He hasn\u2019t heard of any issues with virtual learning and the electricity remained on.\u00a0 There were several instances of broken pipes that burst in the residence halls, Overstreet Hall and Peace Hall.\u00a0 Mulerider Market was opened up during the winter storm.\u00a0 Over 400 bags of food were distributed to students on campus.<\/p>\n Currently, there is an investigation being conducted about the cyberattack.\u00a0 There is no indication that the cyberattack included any confidential information.\u00a0 There was only directory information obtained.\u00a0 The investigation concluded that the cyberattack that was targeting toward his email and Ms. Davis\u2019 email.\u00a0 There are new protocols are being implemented.<\/p>\n The COVID-19 vaccine distribution is ongoing.\u00a0 Currently, there is 1 student in quarantine off campus and 3 quarantined on campus and 7 positives. Random testing is still occurring.<\/p>\n The SAU Foundation is giving $12,000 for funds allocated to attend workshops and professional development.\u00a0 As of now, $8,000 has been distributed and $4,000 remains.<\/p>\n Enrollment update\u2014enrollment at the undergraduate is down, but graduate enrollment is up.\u00a0 We are 600 applications down.\u00a0 Not sure if it is attributed to the birth rate being lower or the pandemic.\u00a0 Campus tours are going up. He complimented the admissions and advising staff for being innovative and working very hard.<\/p>\n Dr. Lanoue response to questions for the administration:<\/p>\n Questions for the Administration<\/p>\n He suggested not open attachments; change passwords; and look at each e-mail carefully\u2014examine carefully the e-mail addresses.<\/p>\n Concurrent students per school (top schools):<\/u><\/p>\n 2019-20<\/p>\n SAU allows 11th<\/sup>\u00a0and 12th<\/sup>\u00a0students to enroll in concurrent courses. \u00a0Due to our carefully chosen secondary partners, SAU has one of the highest matriculation rates in the state.<\/p>\n Secondary partners that have the most students matriculate to SAU (highest to lowest):<\/u><\/p>\n Matriculation rates:<\/u><\/p>\n 2017 \u2013 2018<\/p>\n 2018 \u2013 2019<\/p>\n 2019 – 2020<\/p>\n Concurrent credit does count for GPA unless the student goes to SAU. \u00a0Transfer credit from other colleges\/universities doesn\u2019t count toward GPA.<\/p>\n He agreed that there could be improvement in this area.\u00a0 He is working with Josh Jenkins to explore options and increase efficiency.<\/p>\n The plan for fall semester with a more typical fall schedule.\u00a0 It is easier to plan to meet face-to-face and pivot to online, if needed.\u00a0 As of now, that is the plan.<\/p>\n He agreed that it is a concern. The last time that adjunct pay was increased was 10 years ago.\u00a0 He explained that this should be brought to the budget committee to explore.<\/p>\n Handbook Committee:\u00a0 Senator S. Schroeder has forwarded the 13th<\/sup> version of the Faculty Handbook to Mr. Giles\u2019 office to review.\u00a0 After it is reviewed, then it will be sent to Josh Jenkins to create as a web-based document.<\/p>\n Budget Committee:\u00a0 Senator T. Schroeder shared a report regarding merit pay.<\/p>\n Ad Hoc committee–Faculty Sanctions:\u00a0 Senators Logan, White, Stanford, and Overholser.\u00a0 Currently, they are researching the policies at other universities.\u00a0 There will be a report next month.<\/p>\n Move to adjourn 5:02 [motion \u2013 White, second \u2013 T.
