Some of the duties included: * To recommend schools to participate in the Arkansas A+ Schools Program * To develop a list of experts in curriculum and instruction who could conduct workshops adapting curriculum and instructions to the theory of Multiple Intelligences and the development of multidisciplinary thematic units. * To identify and compile a list of individual arts personnel, artistic events, and artistic resources in local contexts. * To advocate for the Arkansas A+ Schools Program as a whole school reform program * To monitor the ongoing implementation of the Program 2004 Made two presentations with co-presenter Dr. Vera Lang (the director of the Walton Delta Teachers Program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello) at the 2004 Frederick D. Patterson Research Conference in Washington, D.C. The first presentation was entitled “Delta Teacher Scholars: A Program to Create Opportunities for African-American Preservice Teachers in the Arkansas-Mississippi Delta Region.” The second was titled “The Impact of Teacher Education Programs on Minority Students in Higher Education from High Poverty Areas.” 1999-2002 Workshop presenter at the SAU tutoring Center— Training tutors how to become Master Tutors 1998-2009 Served in search committees in several departments on campus for faculty positions 1998-1999 Spent several hours working closely with other members of the SAU Retention Task Force Oct. 21, 1997 A Presenter in a public forum at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The forum was a project funded through a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The theme of the forum was “Man: In Search of Identity and Equity.” Presenter’s topic was “Identity Crisis in Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart and Richard Wright’s “The Man Who Was Almost a Man.” 2000- 2005 Conducted free Saturday workshops for the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP)—English part 1992-1995 Conducted free English Fundamentals Tests (EFT) and English Proficiency Test (EPT) Workshops on Saturdays for students who needed extra help in passing these important departmental tests. Throughout the semesters, we worked closely with these students, holding group and sub-group meetings with them. Discussions ranged from stimulating the students to talk freely about the underlining reasons why most of them (according to President Gamble’s statistics) did not graduate to identifying several solutions to the problem. Our hope was that not only the 60+ group but also other SAU students would benefit from our work in the program. Our discussions ultimately led to the creation of the office of Multicultural Services and the hiring of a director for that position.
