He has over 14 years of experience in research, higher education, and industry, with expertise spanning polymer science, sustainable materials, energy technologies, and environmental engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining SAU, Dr. Islam served as a McKnight Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where his research focused on advanced materials for carbon monoxide capture, carbon dioxide utilization, and sustainable energy applications. He also spent nine years as a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering, teaching a wide range of undergraduate engineering courses and supervising student research projects.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Islam&#8217;s research interests include battery materials and manufacturing, polymeric and porous adsorbents for gas capture, carbon capture and utilization (CCU), water treatment technologies, microplastic remediation, sustainable polymers, process engineering, and advanced functional materials for environmental and energy applications. His current work emphasizes developing sustainable technologies that bridge fundamental materials science with industrial applications.<\/p>\n<p>He has authored and co-authored nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications, including research articles, review papers, and book chapters in internationally recognized journals. His scholarly contributions have focused on polymers, adsorption materials, membrane technologies, energy storage, environmental remediation, and sustainable chemical processes.<\/p>\n<p>At SAU, Dr. Islam is committed to excellence in teaching, mentoring undergraduate researchers, and developing hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for careers in chemical engineering, battery manufacturing, sustainable energy, and advanced manufacturing.
