Celebrity Portrait

For this project, you will produce a portrait of a celebrity of your choice.  You may use a photo you find in a magazine.  You may use graphite, colored pencil or pen and ink.

Specifications:

Within an 14Ó by 11Ó (vertical) sheet of Bristol board, you will produce one finished rendering of a celebrity of your choice, found in a magazine. You may use graphite, colored pencil or pen and ink. The finished illustration will not need to be mounted.  Store it in a safe place for use in your portfolio later on.  You may use any drawing technique you like to produce this portrait.

Instructions:

Begin by lightly sketching your subject with pencil.  You should produce several studies of your subject before you begin on the final illustration.  Use these sketches to assist you in determining correct placement of light, shadow, transitions and textural effects, as well as placement of the illustration on the page and correct reproduction of the form itself in correct perspective.

Keep in mind the unique attributes that gives this person their identifying characteristics. The piece should be versitile, and be able to function as a stand-alone work, or incorporated into another piece, such as an advertisement, or book cover.

If done well, this piece stands an excellent chance of being included as a portfolio piece.
