Texture - The surface characteristics of an object

Abstract Texture - A texture derived from the appearance of an actual surface, but re-arranged and/or simplified by the artist to satisfy the demands of the artwork

Actual Texture - A Surface that can be experienced through the sense of touch (as opposed to a visually-simulated surface)

Simulated Texture - A convincing copy or translation of an object’s texture (for our purposes, in 2 dimensional format)

Invented Texture - A created texture whose only source is the imagination of the artist

Tactile - referring to something experienced by the sense of touch

Print - coat the surface of the texture with a thin layer of ink or paint, and use it as a sort of rubber stamp

Rubbing - cover the surface to be duplicated with a layer of thin paper, then use a pencil lead, on its side, to rub across the surface of the paper, transferring the appearance of the texture to the surface of the paper

Drawing - recreate a texture through the use of drawing, paying close attention to surface details
