Do a pen or pencil drawing of an inorganic object and one of an organic object without looking at the groundsheet. If the temptation to look is too great, put a sheet of cardboard or paper over the groundsheet so that you cannot see your drawing. Try drawing the object several times, then choose the best one from each of the two categories: organic and inorganic objects.
Your initial response to this assignment will be "I cant do this." Your abilities will surprise you once you get into the "groove". The purpose of this assignment is to create strictly from the left brain, drawing what you see and not what you know. If you concentrate on your subject hard enough, you will be amazed at the results: sheer, unmolested creativity in action. It will also boost your confidence in your intuitive ability to create. Final dimensions and media are up to you.
The purpose of this assignment is for you to begin to develop your drawing skills using line. In order to be an effective and accurate draftsman, you will need to carefully observe and scrutinize your subject. You will need to base your drawings mostly on your visual input alone; you must draw what you see, not what you know. This exercise will awaken these areas of the brain and enable you to become a better designer.
Be sure to put your name on the back of these!!! Due at the end of class. 10 points.
