2nd Assignment : A Calligraphic Exploration

In order to further your understanding of the qualities and expressive capabilities of line, you will experiemnt in calligraphy today. Some of you for the first time. It's harder than it looks. Using a wide brush and an ink solution from your black acrylic paint (or India ink if you have it) write your name.

Don’t be concerned with legibility (whether or not you can read it), but rather focus on using your whole arm to create a line–one that has an emotional attitude. Try to emphasize thick and thin transitions, and a flowing, fluid sense of movement.

The purpose of this assignment is to experiment with creating with your entire arm, not just tight, precise cutting and gluing of paper. It also allows for a bit more freedom in your creativity. Feel free to do a few "practice" versions to get the feel of the brush before you turn your work in.

Create 5 different versions. You may put all 5 versions on the same page, or you can create them on separate pages and reassemble them on a mounting board. However, mounting is NOT required for this project.

For grading purposes, please be sure to put your name on the BACK of your project. Projects without names will NOT be graded and you will receive a ZERO!

This project is due Wednesday at the begionning of class. 10 points
