Illustration of an Abstract Concept

 

Assignment:

You will be given a word at random to illustrate.  The word will be an abstract concept.  You will create an illustration in colored pencil that illustrates this concept, or how you interpret this concept.  The goal is clarity of communication with this assignment.  Your audience should at least have some vague idea of what you are trying to communicate.  The clearer the better.

 

Specifications:

You may not use type or words of any kind in your illustration.  You may use symbols, or images with symbolic meaning, provided that they assist in clearly communicating your concept.  Please use colored pencil to illustrate your concept.

 

Please paste your concept title you were given in class to the back of the project, and don’t forget to add your name.

 

Create the design with an 8” tall by 10” wide format.  Mount your project to black foamboard or matteboard with a half-inch border all the way around.  This project is due at the beginning of class on Monday.

 

Notes:

This is an opportunity for you to utilize the creative process of brainstorming, thumbnails, roughs and comps /final comps.  I would like to see each of you make it to the “rough” stage by the end of class.
