International Student Scholarship Program

There have been changes in the International Student Scholarship program. Below
are the current scholarships available to international students. There are
two main types of scholarships for international students: Initial and
Retention. All
scholarships are contingent upon available funding. All scholarship students must live
on campus.
INITIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
There are three types of initial scholarships: Presidential,
International Excellence, and Non-Resident.
Criteria for Initial Scholarships:
- Must be an F-1 visa student.
- Must be an incoming freshman student who has successfully completed secondary
school and has not attended a post-secondary school.
- Must score at least:
A. Non-Resident Scholarship---ACT composite of at least 24 or SAT of at least
1090 (critical reading + math).
B. International Excellence Scholarship---ACT composite of at least
27 or SAT of at least 1200 (critical reading + math).
C. International Presidential Scholarship---ACT composite of at
least 30 or SAT of at least 1310 (critical reading + math).
- Must complete the International Scholarship Application.
- Must live on campus.
For Automatic Renewal of the Scholarships:
- Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Must remain a full-time student by taking at least 15 hours of credit each
semester.
- Must live on campus.
Deadline for Submitting Application:
Applications for a scholarship must be submitted by March 15 for the Presidential,
International Excellence, and the Non-Resident scholarships for the fall
semester. Scholarships for the spring semester are only available if
funded.
Types of Initial Scholarships:
Non-Resident Scholarship
The Non-Resident Scholarship will be equivalent to the difference between
resident and non-resident tuition cost which is approximately $1155 per
semester ($2310 for the academic year). The number of these scholarships is
dependent on the funding available and is available for first-time freshman international students
entering in the Fall or Spring semester. Recipients will be chosen by the
International Office based upon their SAT or ACT scores (at least an ACT
composite score of 24 or SAT combined score of 1090---critical reading + math). These scholarships are
renewable if the student maintains a good academic record as listed in the
criteria above.
International Excellence Scholarship
This scholarship will be equivalent to the cost of in-state tuition which is
approximately $2250 per semester ($4500 per academic year). The number of these
scholarships is limited to four scholarships per year and is available for
first-time freshman international students entering for the Fall semester.
Recipients will be chosen by the International Office based upon their SAT or
ACT scores (at least an ACT composite score of 27 or SAT combined score of
1200---critical reading + math). These scholarships are renewable if the student maintains academic
excellence as listed in the criteria above.
Presidential Scholarship
This scholarship will be equivalent to the cost of in-state tuition, room &
board in a residence hall, and a $500 stipend each semester. The approximate monetary value of this scholarship is $4775 per semester ($9550 per academic
year). The number of these scholarships is limited to two scholarships per year
and is available for first-time freshman international students entering for the
Fall semester. Recipients will be chosen by the International Office based upon
the SAT or ACT scores (at least an ACT composite score of 30 or SAT combined
score of 1310---critical reading + math). These scholarships are renewable if the student maintains
academic excellence as listed in the criteria above.
RETENTION SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria/Information
- Must complete the International Scholarship Application.
- Must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA and have completed at least 15 hours at
SAU.
- Must maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA and maintain at least 15 hours
each semester to to renew the scholarship.
- Maximum award of 7 semesters.
- Award is equal to out-of-state tuition waiver.
- Must live on campus.
- Only for students without other international scholarships.
The Retention Scholarship will be equivalent to the
difference between resident and non-resident tuition cost which is approximately
$1155 per semester ($2310 for the academic year). The applications are available
at the International Office. The number of these scholarships is dependent
on the funding available.
