How and Why to Give

Why do you give?

"If we stop and think about this: We spend more time at work than we do in our on homes. So we call this our home away from home. We are proud of SAU and we want the best for the university. We can show people that we have the best accommodation for students and also for the community. We want our homes to be impressive, so if we all give our part, our home away from home will be very impressive. That's what we all want."

- Pam Vaughn

"To be a part of something big that I could never accomplish alone. I do not make much, and therefore can not contribute much, but when the BIG stones are laid for the foundation -- there are still holes, and it takes the little stones to fill in those holes. I will never be able to be a "Reynolds" but I can be a 'giver' and a part of the bigger picture. The Reynolds' would not have given their LARGE donation if they did not think that there would be a lot of other people willing to give their own small donation to complete the work, and it is the last drop that fills the cup!"

- Kay Davis

How do I give to the Foundation?

Cash

Cash – usually in the form of a check – is the most common and popular gift to the SAU Foundation. Your charitable gifts of cash may be deducted in the year the gift is made as long as you itemize deductions. You may deduct an amount up to 50% of your adjusted gross income; any excess may be deducted over the next five tax years.

Matching Gifts

If you are employed by a company that has a matching gift program, your firm will match your gift to the SAU Foundation. You can usually obtain matching gift forms from your company's personnel office.

Stock

Gifts of appreciated stock owned long enough to qualify as long-term property provide a double benefit – a charitable deduction, in most cases for the full fair-market value of the property, plus avoidance of any potential capital gain tax. You may deduct an amount up to 30% of your adjusted gross income; any excess may be deducted over the next five tax years.

If the property you would like to give has dropped in value, you will probably be better off selling it and giving the cash proceeds. You will receive deductions for both the capital loss and the charitable gift.

Stock may be transferred electronically.

Please download the Stock/Bond Transfer Form or contact the Foundation office for more information on stock transfers at 877-235-7409 toll free or 870-235-4078.

Other Appreciated Property

Giving appreciated property such as mutual funds and real estate can provide you with benefits similar to giving appreciated stock.

Gifts-in-Kind

Equipment, collections of value, works of art, books, and various agricultural products may also make practical gifts to the SAU Foundation. The deduction depends on the appraised value and the use of the gift by the University.

Employees of SAU: consider payroll deduction

Payroll deduction is an easy way to give that will benefit the entire SAU Family and the Blue and Gold Vision. Please click on the Payroll Deduction link, fill it out completely and send it to SAU Foundation.

Your online contributions to the SAU Foundation are non-refundable.
