Jamie Brandon (Research Station Archeologist) received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, his MA from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and his BA from the University of Memphis. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field of archaeology, has been involved with projects in a total of 13 southeastern states and has authored or co-authored publications and/or technical reports on research in seven of those states. Dr. Brandon has worked at all stages of investigation and on sites dating from the Pleistocene to the twentieth century. He has worked with the Arkansas Archeological Survey in various capacities since 1997 and is the co-owner &
moderator for the African-American Archaeology Listserv, an on-line group for the discussion of the archeology of the African Diaspora in the New World (associated with the African Diaspora Archaeology Network). Dr. Brandon is the co-editor of Household Chores, Household Choices: Theorizing the Domestic Sphere in Historical Archaeology (University of Alabama Press, 2004) and has authored several scholarly articles appearing in Historical Archaeology, Arkansas Archeologist, Mississippi Archaeology and the Tennessee Anthropologist. His research interests include historical archaeology of the 19th century South, late-period prehistoric/protohistoric cultures of the mid-south and trans-mississippi south, cultural and historical memory and working with descendant communities. David Jeane (Research Assistant) has a BA in Anthropology from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and a MS in Environmental Science from the University of Louisiana-Monroe. He has served as a member of the Legislative Study Committee on Unmarked Human Burials in Louisiana and has authored or co-authored over 30 publications on the archeology of this region. David has served as Crew Chief, Director or Co-director of over 40 major archeological projects or surveys in Louisiana and Arkansas and has spent 6 field seasons excavating in the Atacama desert of southern Peru with the Centro Mallqui, the Bioanthropological Institute of Peru.
Mr. Jeane is a member of the Society for Historical Archeology, Southeastern Archeological Conference, The Caddo Conference, Lifetime member of the Arkansas and Louisiana Archeological Societies, the Texas Archeological Society, The South America Explorers Club, TIGHAR (The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery) and the Civil War Roundtable of North Louisiana. He serves on the Board of Directors of the ARC of North Webster Parish, and is the Director of the City of Springhill Historic District Commission. David is currently Field Director of the Gateway Project, a multi-year archeological project in downtown Texarkana where we are excavating several sites in the old section of downtown to document the early growth of the city. The project is a joint effort between Texarkana College, the Texas Archeological Society, and the Arkansas Archeological Society. David also collects English China from 1780 to 1860's. Anthony Clay Newton (Technical Assistant) has a BA in History from Southern Arkansas University. Mr. Newton is a Magnolia native and a professional archeological technician who has worked for various cultural resource management companies on projects in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi. He is also member of the Arkansas Archeological Society and has served on the AAS Board of Advisors since 2000. Mr. Newton is interested in the archeology and history of southwestern Arkansas and the Ark-La-Tex region. Clay is also an accomplished photographer and camera collector.
