College of Education
The
College of Education at Southern Arkansas University prepares educators,
administrators, coaches, trainers and student services professionals, and serves
as a center to encourage excellence in the development of high quality
educational institutions in throughout Arkansas and neighboring Louisiana and
Texas regions. In addition to its primary role, the College also provides
opportunities that allow educators and others to continue their professional and
personal development.
In addition to the professional holdings in the campus library, the College
also houses the Teaching and Learning Center. This Center provides a wide array
of teaching and technology resources and support services for students and
faculty.
The Southwest Educational Renewal Zone is a center that collaborates with a
local school districts and educational service centers throughout the southwest
region of the state to jointly plan and develop strategies and training for
school improvement. University faculty and associates from the Arkansas
Department of Education staff the center.
The faculty includes members who have held positions at the university,
agency, and school district levels, including superintendents, assistant
superintendents with curriculum, assessment and financial expertise, directors
of professional development, principals, teachers, counselors, other student
services positions, as well as athletic coaches, trainers and wellness
practitioners in all fields and physiologists.
Southern Arkansas graduates are distinguishing themselves as outstanding
educational leaders as teachers, educational administrators, and student service
and athletic personnel at the national, state, regional, school district, and
university levels.
The college is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of
Teacher Education and other national accrediting agencies and offers bachelors
and master’s degrees and professional licensure in teaching, administration,
coaching, training, wellness and recreation areas and various student services
areas through the departments of
Curriculum and Instruction and
Health,
Kinesiology and Recreation.
