A.     Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement:  Find and correct the errors in agreement in these sentences.  Write Correct if there is no error.  This exercise is worth 20 points.

2.      However, today both her poetry and her novels have taken its place in American literature.

 

3.      Many of you have probably read Brooks’s poems in your literature anthologies.

 

4.      All of Brooks’s major work has been praised for their powerful originality.

 

5.      For her book Annie Allen, Brooks became the first African-American writer to win the Pulitzer Prize

 

6.      Over the years, neither this work nor Brooks’s novel Maud Martha has lost their appeal.

 

7.      When Brooks was young, neither her parents nor her mentor, poet James Weldon Johnson, withheld their praise for her talent.

 

8.      Later in Brooks’s career, the Library of Congress made her their official consultant for poetry.

 

9.      Meanwhile¸ few in the world of poetry failed to pursue his or her own exploration of Brooks’s vivid writing.

 

10.  Each reader who carefully approaches Brooks’s poems can find their own personal meanings in her words.
