Two or more singular antecedents joined by or or nor are referred to by a
singular pronoun.
1.
Either Susan or Mary will let us use her car to drive to the movie.
2.
Neither the cat nor the dog had eaten its meal.
Use the noun nearer the verb to determine
the pronoun for subjects joined by or or nor.
Neither the dogs nor the cat had eaten
its meal.
Neither the cat nor the dogs had
eaten their meal.
