Campus Life
The Arts
Southern Arkansas University provides its students an opportunity to immerse
themselves in the arts. Each semester members of the Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble,
Dixieland Band, Heritage Singers, Chamber Singers, and other musical groups
perform for students and community members. The
Department of Theatre and Mass
Communication presents four play productions each school year. The University
also sponsors guest lecturers and performers throughout the year.
Athletics
Southern Arkansas University competes in the
NCAA Division II Gulf South
Conference. Men’s teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, football,
golf, and track and field. Women’s teams include basketball, cross country,
softball, track and field, tennis, and volleyball. Men’s and women’s
rodeo teams
also participate in intercollegiate competition. The University also offers
intramural activities and competitions for those who enjoy team sports as well
as those who would rather compete on an individual basis. The program works
hand-in-hand with the Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation and
serves as an arena for its majors to develop their interests and skills.
Student Activities
Southern Arkansas University offers its students many opportunities to
participate in more than
30 different student organizations. Numerous
organizations are available under eight major headings: departmental and
professional organizations, recognition and honor societies, religious
organizations, special interest groups, student government, hall councils, and
social fraternities and sororities. In addition, the University provides
entertainment events throughout the year, including dances, professional
entertainers, lectures, plays, movies, concerts, workshops, football games and
other athletic events, and intramural sports. The
Office of Student Activities
also sponsors such annual favorite events as
Spring Fling, the
Fall Fest and
Chili Cook-Off, and a number of activities at the beginning of each semester.
