Magnolia, Ark.— The McNeil Lady Eagles improved their record to 8-5 on the season by skimming past Wickes 44-35 at the Southern Arkansas University high school tournament in the W.T. Watson Athletic Center here tonight. The Lady Warriors of Wickes led until the fourth period when McNeil slipped past. With 1:15 remaining in regulation McNeil led by four, 34-30.
The bulk of McNeil’s points were from Erica Ewell and Marquita Murphy who had 20 and 16, respectively. Murphy shot 75 percent (9-of-12) from the freethrow line and Ewell 73 percent (8-of-11) from the charity stripe. Kendrell Burton added five, LaToiea Clayton and Angela Moss two each.
Kayla Zanzeburg had a team high 12 points for Wickes followed by Karen Garcia who was the only other player in double-figures with 10.
Wickes dropped to 7-7 on the season while McNeil advances to play Stephens, Thursday at 6:10pm.
Stephens defeated Walker on Saturday 33-31.
