SAU Competes Against Loaded Field
Waco,
Tex.--Competing against a loaded NCAA Division I field, Southern Arkansas
University was able to place in a few events in the Michael
Johnson/Southwestern Bell Classic at the Hart/Patterson Track and Field Complex
on the campus of Baylor University here Friday and Saturday.
The
Muleriders and Riderettes competed against such track and field powers as
Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Baylor, Texas A&M, Southern Methodist,
Texas-El Paso, Texas-Arlington, Sam Houston State, the University of Houston,
University of New Mexico, Texas-San Antonio, Seton Hall, Tulsa University and
others.
For
the 'Riders, Jermaine Jones and Troy Davis were 32nd and 33rd in the 800-meter
run; Chad Stansbury and Trey Windwehen were 34th and 37th, respectively, in the
1,500-meter run; Matt Albertson was 20th, Allan Reyes 25th, Tyler Johnson 28th,
Matt Quinn 29th and Windwehen 30th in the 5,000; and Tyran Cager gave SAU their
highest finish in the men's division with an eighth place in the long jump with
a leap of 22-9.
For
the Riderettes, Veronica Villagran placed an impressive fifth in the
3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:15.36 and Beth Augenstein was 24th
in the 1,500-meter run.
