SAU Golf Host Meet

Cabot, Ark.--Southern Arkansas University golfers soared to a 331 total here Wednesday at Cypress Creek Country Club after competing well at Harbor Oaks in Pine Bluff Tuesday with a 319. The Muleriders were still in the hunt after the first round, trailing Ouachita Baptist University's 301 and Harding University's 306.

At Cabot, OBU played even better with a 297 to finish with a team total 598 while HU fell to 313 for a 619 total. SAU finished third with 650 and the University of Arkansas-Monticello, which trailed the field after the first day with a distant 402, did not compete the second day.

Kevin Walker of OBU put together scores of 74 and 71 for a two-day total of 145 with Jeff Powell a stroke back at 146. Jeff Maneth of OBU was a close third with 147.

SAU's Matt Hubbard was eighth after a strong 74 the first day but ballooned to 85 the second to finish with 159. Daniel Green was ninth with 160 after rounds of 81 and 79. Jonathan Hammons was 10th with 82 and 81 for 163 and Leonard Biddle 12th with 82 and 86 for 168.
