Magnolia, Ark.-“Our players have been working hard…they have been physically going against each other,’’ said Southern Arkansas University head football Steve Quinn Thursday. Quinn said the Mulerider coaching staff will send their charges through non-contact work Thursday and Friday and go through game script Saturday.
“We are also breaking in our scout team today (Thursday), the coach added. We will begin preparation in earnest for our game against Tarleton State according to our scouting report and will work on our kicking game. We should have everyone back by Monday, hopefully, from our injury list.” The list included wide receiver Nik Lewis, a victim of the heat and a bad ankle, and backup quarterback Damian Melancon with a sore back. Quinn also said running back Justin Greene is back for his first full day in pads from a back ailment.
The coach went on to say “Our returnees are doing a great job. I feel we have hit a point of having to push ourselves and our kids have done a good job. All of our players are looking forward to going into game preparation. I’m very proud of our conditioning and effort.”
Quinn said “Tarleton will be a huge challenge, opening in the top 20 in the nation. We definitely will have to be ready and cannot afford first-game mistakes.” The ‘Riders meet TSU Thursday, September 4, in Stephenville, Tex.
