Muleriders Name Joseph Carter As Secondary Coach
Magnolia, AR—Joseph Cater has accepted a position on the Southern Arkansas University football staff, according to head football coach Steve Quinn. Carter, a native of Magnolia, Miss., will be the new secondary coach for the Muleriders.
Before his arrival on the SAU campus, Carter was the linebackers coach at the University of West Alabama in 2000. In 1998 and 1999, he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Cumberland College in Kentucky after a season as the defensive line coach. Prior to his three years at Cumberland, he was a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Eastern New Mexico University, working with the defensive line and linebackers, from 1994 until 1997.
Carter was a running back at Eastern New Mexico where he was honored as the ‘Best Blocking Back’ as a senior. He was a prep All-Star at South Pike High School in Mississippi. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts and his Masters degree in Sports Administration at Eastern New Mexico.
The single, 33-year old, Carter said, “My goal is to motivate and inspire student-athletes to have the same passion and dedication to the game of football as my own.” Quinn added, “ I am very excited that Coach Carter accepted a position on our staff. I feel that he is the type of person who will fit well with the goals and direction of this program and I am sure he will add considerably to our football team.”
The hiring of Carter fills the vacancy on the SAU staff that was created when last year’s secondary coach, Clay Jennings, resigned to accept a position at NCAA Division I Sam Houston State.
