Southern Arkansas’ Eddie Key Named All-American
Magnolia, Ark.—Southern Arkansas University linebacker Eddie Key has been selected first-team D2Football.Com All-America. A 6-2, 220-pound senior from Longview (Pine Tree), Tex., Key is a three-time All-Gulf South Conference selection and was one of five first-team players chosen from the GSC. Seven more conference players were named to the second team.
Key, who led SAU in tackles last season, was only the fourth player in GSC history to be chosen to the National Football Foundation and College Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame National Scholar-Athlete. When the D-2Football.Com All-America team was announced, Key was in New York as one of only two players from NCAA Division II and 16 nation-wide attending an awards ceremony for athletic and academic accomplishments.
Key, a first-team All-South Region pick in 2001 and second-team choice in 2000, was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District VI Football Team, was the SAU Male Scholar-Athlete for the 2000-01 academic year, a winner of the Bill Gates Scholarship Award, has been on every possible GSC Academic/Honor Roll team in his four years as a Mulerider and has maintained a steady 3.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale, majoring in Criminal Justice.
