Three ‘Riders Earn All-South Region Honors

 

            Magnolia, AR-- Southern Arkansas University placed three members of their football team on the 2000 Daktronics All-South Region Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

            Earning first-team honors was center Trey LaValle, a 6’1”, 260-pound junior from Farmersville, La., and second-team honors went to offensive guard Michael Boster, a 6’4”, 315-pound senior from Van Buren and linebacker Eddie Key, a 6’2”, 206-pound junior from Longview, Tex.

            LaValle, Boster, and Key were all first-team All-Gulf South Conference selections.  The GSC placed a total of 31 players on the All-South Region Team and all 12 football-playing members of the conference were represented by at least one player on the team.  The All-South Region team is made up of players from NCAA Division II conferences in the southeastern states of the nation.

            Delta State of the GSC will meet Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania for the national Division II championship Saturday at Florence, Ala.  DSU stunned North Dakota State 34-16 and Bloomsburg came from behind to upset previously unbeaten California State-Davis 58-48 in the semifinals.  Delta, a GSC tri-champion with West Georgia and Vadosta State past SAU 30-28 on a 43-yard field goal with less than a minute remaining in October.
