CORE DRUG AND ALCOHOL SURVEY

Following are some key findings on the use of alcohol:

  • 60%     of the students drink (used alcohol in the past 30 days).

  • 60%     of underage (younger than 21) students drink (indicated
                 alcohol use at least once in previous 30 days).

  • 35%     of students "binge" ( had 5 or more drinks at a sitting in the
                  previous 2 weeks).  

Following are some key findings on the use of illegal drugs:

  • 26%     of students have use marijuana (at least once in the past year).

  • 15%     of students are current marijuana users (have used in the past
                 30 days).

  • 13%     of students have used some kind of illegal drug other than
                 marijuana (at least once in the past year). 

  • 7%       of students are current users of other illegal drugs (other than
                 marijuana in the past 30 days). 

The most frequently reported illegal drugs used in the past 30 days were:

  • 15%      marijuana (pot, hash, hash oil)

  •   4%      amphetamines (diet pills, speed)

  •   2%      sedatives (downers, ludes)

Following are some key findings on the consequences of alcohol and drugs
use:

  • 41%      reported some form of public misconduct (such as trouble with
                  police, fighting/argument, DWI/DUI, taken sexual advantage
                  of at least once during the past year as a result of drinking or 
                  drug use.
