Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology
The BSIT program’s purpose is to prepare students for technical managerial
responsibilities in business, industry, and government. Initiated by SAU in 1989
to meet the growing demand for formal educational opportunities among area
employers and employees, it is designed to assist both local industries and
full-time employees of those industries. The courses offered have proven to be
of value and relevance to industry in creating employee knowledge and skills.
The program also affords students an opportunity to continue their formal
education while maintaining their current employment. Achievement of the BSIT
degree often provides increased opportunity for advancement for employees in
their current or related career field. The non-traditional program offers the
industrial technology core courses nights and weekends in Magnolia and Camden to
decrease conflict with normal employment hours.
The core courses will be offered on the web beginning Fall 2007. Students
must be admitted into the university to take a course. Contact the Office of
Admissions at 870-235-4040.
The course requirements are divided into three blocks totaling 128 hours:
- 43 hours - general education requirements as in all bachelor degrees;
- 34 hours - basic technical courses as in an approved associate degree or
the equivalent; and
- 51 hours - the industrial technology core, including 9 hours of
electives, to be typically offered off campus on weekends
