Student Information

Student Computer Accounts

To take advantage of the University's information technology resources, you will need a university computer account. Please visit the Helpdesk in Dolph Camp or the information desk in Magale Library for information concerning your e-mail address, your username, and your password. Once a username and password is retrieved the listed steps below should get you on SAU's network:

To logon to the SAU network, student WebMail, and Blackboard:

  • Press Crtl+Alt+Delete
  • Enter Username (first and middle initial, last name, and four digit number obtained at Information Desk on main floor or Commons Desk on 3 rd floor of library, i.e. iastudent4321)
  • Enter Password (last six digits of your social security number, i.e. 561234)
  • Press Enter
  • IMPORTANT: Always log out when finished!

Saving Files to your storage folder

All students have a folder on the Z: drive where they can save files.  This folder can be accessed from any computer on the local area network.  The drive is backed up every night.  Please be aware that there is a 100 MB limit on your Z: folder. If you surpass the limit, your account will be disabled.  To save to your Z folder:

  • Click on File> Save As
  • Click on the down arrow to the right of the Save In dialog box
  • Click on your (Z:) drive
  • Type the name of the file in the File Name dialog box
  • Click Save

Printing

Your technology fee provides you an allotment of $5 for printing per semester (color = .10, b&w = .02).  Additional pages can be purchased in increments of $5 at the Business Office. Unused pages that were purchased above the allotment will be rolled forward to the next semester.  Each time you print, the Print Limit Pro program will inform you of your remaining allotment via a pop-up message.

Blackboard

Blackboard is a Web-based course-management system designed to allow students and faculty to participate in classes delivered online or use online materials and activities to complement face-to-face teaching. Blackboard enables instructors to provide students with course materials, discussion boards, virtual chat, online quizzes, an academic resource center, and more. The degree to which Blackboard is used in a course varies. For example, instructors may supplement an on-campus class by putting their syllabus and handouts on their course sites. In contrast, other courses may be conducted entirely through Blackboard, without any on-campus sessions.

Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser™ is a customized browser that increases the security of test delivery in Blackboard. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser to access an exam, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. Once an assessment is started, students are locked into it until it’s submitted for grading. For a complete list of features, visit the Respondus web site at http://www.respondus.com.

Please be aware that the appropriate Respondus LockDown Browser must be used when taking an online exam requiring the browser.  For example, if you are taking an SAU Tech online course, you will need to download and install the SAU Tech Respondus.  Links to both versions are below:
