Asian Study Minor

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

An Asian Studies minor will provide students with an overview of the history, geography, and philosophy of the great civilizations in Asia. Students will also learn to appreciate these civilizations¡¦ place in the modern global community.  The minor is especially recommended to students interested in exploring Asian cultures, or for those planning a career in international business or communications. The minor is jointly administered by the Department of English and Foreign Language and the Department of History, Political Science, and Geography.

REQUIREMENTS

The minor in Asian studies requires successful completion of the requirements listed below for a total of 18 hours.

6 hours of language requirement:

Chinese 1003 Mandarin Chinese I

Chinese 1013 Mandarin Chinese II

12 hours from the following courses:

HIST 3053: Middle East

HIST 3063: Modern East Asia

HIST/PSCI 3213: Eastern Thought

HIST 3173: Modern South Asia

GEOG 4013: Asian Geography 

ENGL3223: East Asian Literature in Translation 

ENGL 3213: Topics in World Literature (When Asian theme is offered)

MGMT 4313: International studies and Field Experience (When Asia is the focus)

AST 4383/4393: Advanced  Topics in Asian Studies
