This program is designed to teach a team of high school students and their supervisor the basics of working with a PC. Topics include specifying machine components, assembling PCs, installing software and peripherals, networking, and troubleshooting.
The PC Academy Certification Program was conceived as a model for assisting school technology coordinators. Students assist in maintaining and troubleshooting school networks by using the skills developed in this program. This model works well for all types of schools, especially schools that are isolated from technical service and support.
Teams consisting of three to five students and one supervisor perform the activities together. The team building process is central to the success of the program. The team concept builds on the knowledge and skills of the individual without placing all of the responsibility on one person. The resulting "learning team" will constantly be upgrading their pool of skills, benefiting both the school and the students.
Students will learn through a number of hands-on cooperative experiences. Topics include:
Introduction to the PC System Components Functions PC Specifications Workstations Peripherals The PC Technician Building a PC Software Installation and Setup Troubleshooting Networking NICs, switches, and cables Protocols Connecting to the Network
